Destroying Procedural Carriers

After introducing procedurally generated carriers, we took the next logical step and destroyed them!

Last time, we looked at procedurally generated carriers which led us logically toward destruction of those carriers.

Since developing the procedural generation process, its scope has been expanded further with customizable colors, new varieties of parts and turrets being introduced; see examples here below for examples:

Last time, we discussed procedurally generated carriers. That led to their destruction - something which should now occur more naturally.

Since creating the procedural generation process, its capabilities have been extended further by including customizable colors, new varieties of parts and new turrets - see examples here and below:

As our carriers are significantly larger than starfighters, a different approach was devised for eliminating them: initiating a multi-stage explosion. A multi-stage explosion is an instantiation of explosion effects instantiated at random across the carrier surface by casting rays from an imaginary sphere with diameter large enough to completely encompass its entirety, then meeting collisions on collision with its surface; explosion prefabs will then be instantiated according to an accelerated sequence that ensures numerous explosions take place over a set period at an accelerating rate.

At the conclusion of this sequence a dramatic final explosion with supernova occurs and ultimately, the carrier itself dissipates into existence using a shader which manipulates both material and geometry of its carrier; bright glowing cinders cover its surface while its geometry expands outward from its centre to simulate an expanding explosion. At later stages in animation texels begin progressively making transparent leading up to eventual disappearance; fiery visual effects, lighting effects and supernova provide the final touches completing today's story arc:
