What Is Deterrence: History, Lore & Campaign Mode?

What Is Deterrence? Deterrence can best be described as an innovative blend of tower defense and real-time strategy mechanics that provides instant action while offering depth, freedom, and depth as part of real time strategy gameplay.

Deterrence in Defiance is dynamic; there's no single path to defend an objective; environmental elements like trees and bridges are destructible and may alter paths for units, while players can unlock new units, defenses and upgrades with the research tree.

My initial vision was for this game to combine elements from tower defense with real-time strategy gameplay, but with complete freedom. But as time passed and development continued, more emphasis was put on resource economy and offensive gameplay as opposed to tower defense - making the project out of scope and too large to handle for me to handle; which eventually brought back full circle to what my initial goal had been.

Scope creep wasn't necessarily detrimental or time wasting; instead, I found that its arrival provided me with numerous new mechanics to mix and match, thus giving Deterrence its unique blend of tower defense and real-time strategy mechanics.
