The Matrix Unplugged

CipherJonathan | Adventure |

The Matrix Unplugged is the only Matrix-themed, text-based MMORPG of its kind in existence. You control a redpill as they awaken from the Matrix, fight agents and exiles, run complex training programs and, ultimately, walk the path of the one.

Currently, the game supports:

  • In-game Events and Messages.
  • Player profiles (you can browse the profile pages of other players, and are given options to send messages, send cash and even initiate combat)
  • The Training System (allowing players to train their core stats: Combat, Coding, Hacking and Tactics).
  • The Missions System (allowing players to carry out tasks in exchange for Items, Money or Experience Points).
  • Basic in-game combat (still work-in-progress).
  • Training Programs (programs which the user can run to not only raise their stats, but also provide them with special abilities, such as Hyperjumping or Bullet Dodging).
  • Basic hacking abilities (still work-in-progress).
  • Public Item Markets.
  • NPCs (Exiles, Redpills, Agents etc.) + NPC Combat.
  • In-Game Forums.
  • Teleportation through District Hardlines (allowing the user to travel to various other areas within MegaCity).

We are working on supporting:

  • The use of Zion Hovercraft (around 50% done already).
  • Long-ranged, Free-Fire Weapons Combat (allowing players to stage large gun battles).
  • A fully integrated Blog/Forum system.
  • In-Game Chat.
  • Improved Profile Pages.

Approaching Beta Stages

Feb 21 2012

I've been working on the game like crazy over the past week or so. I've implemented a number of cool and relatively major features, and made loads of smaller, more subtle changes to the game as a whole.
Also, not that it's anything to do with the game's development - we now have over 100 player signups, which is pretty cool considering the fact that we're still in Alpha.
Anyway, here're a few things which I've added recently:

Firstly, I almost completely rewrote the Code Segment system. Code Segments are designed to be the main in-game currency (aside from actual money), and therefore in the newly re-implemented system, I've made it as easy as possible to acquire them, use them and sell them on. I'm still examining what the effects on the game's economy have been because of this, but here's the new Source system, where you can use your Code Segments for various in-game rewards:
