Amish marble machines make for interesting contraptions. The marbles are lowered into a small tray, then a counterweight raises the tray so that the next marble may pass through.
In 3DS Max, I created a rough outline of the machine. It was important to first test physics before creating the fully-textured model. Then, after setting collisions for all the key elements, I needed to create a hinge so that the rod would be able to rotate. It worked out surprisingly well!
A blocking element is located at the top to prevent the marbles from being able to move through the machine before it moves back up. The machine handled about one marble every two seconds.
